CHAPTER 1 |
CHAPTER 1 |
1. In the beginning was the gospel preached through the
Son. And the gospel was the word, and the word was with the Son, and the
Son was with God, and the Son was of God.
1. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with
God, and the Word was God.
3. All things were made by him; and without him was not
anything made which was made.
3. All things were made by him; and without him was not
any thing made that was made.
4. In him was the gospel, and the gospel was the life,
and the life was the light of men;.
4. In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5. And the light shineth in the world, and the world
perceiveth it not.
5. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness
comprehended it not.
7. The same came into the world for a witness, to bear
witness of the light, to bear record of the gospel through the Son, unto
all, that through him men might believe.
7. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the
Light, that all men through him might believe.
8. He was not that light, but came to bear witness of
that light,
8. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness
of that Light.
9. Which was the true light, which lighteth every man
who cometh into the world;.
9. That was the true Light, which lighteth every man
that cometh into the world.
10. Even the Son of God. He who was in the world, and
the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
10. He was in the world, and the world was made by him,
and the world knew him not.
12. But as many as received him, to them gave he power
to become the sons of God; only to them who believe on his name.
12. But as many as received him, to them gave he power
to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13. He was born, not of blood, nor of the will of the
flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
13. Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of
the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14. And the same word was made flesh, and dwelt among
us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the Only Begotten of the
Father, full of grace and truth.
14. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us,
(and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the
Father,) full of grace and truth.
15. John bear witness of him, and cried, saying, This is
he of whom I spake; He who cometh after me, is preferred before me; for he
was before me.
15. John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This
was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me:
for he was before me.
16. For in the beginning was the Word, even the Son, who
is made flesh, and sent unto us by the will of the Father. And as many as
believe on his name shall receive of his fullness. And of his fullness
have all we received, even immortality and eternal life, through his
grace.
16. And of his fulness have all we received, and grace
for grace.
17. For the law was given through Moses, but life and
truth came through Jesus Christ.
17. For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth
came by Jesus Christ.
18. For the law was after a carnal commandment, to the
administration of death; but the gospel was after the power of an endless
life, through Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son, who is in the bosom of
the Father.
19. And no man hath seen God at any time, except he hath
borne record of the Son; for except it is through him no man can be
saved.
18. No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten
Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.
20. And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent
priests and Levites from Jerusalem, to ask him; Who art thou?
19. And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent
priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou?
21. And he confessed, and denied not that he was Elias;
but confessed, saying; I am not the Christ.
20. And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I
am not the Christ.
22. And they asked him, saying; How then art thou Elias?
And he said, I am not that Elias who was to restore all things. And they
asked him saying, Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No.
21. And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And
he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No.
23. Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we man
give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself?
22. Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may
give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself?
24. He said, I am the voice of one crying in the
wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as saith the prophet
Esaias.
23. He said, I am the voice of one crying in the
wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias.
25. And they who were sent were of the Pharisees.
24. And they which were sent were of the Pharisees.
26. And they asked him, and said unto him; Why baptizest
thou then, if thou be not the Christ, nor Elias who was to restore all
things, neither that prophet?.
25. And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest
thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that prophet?
27. John answered them, saying; I baptize with water,
but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not;
26. John answered them, saying, I baptize with water:
but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not;
28. He it is of whom I bear record. He is that prophet,
even Elias, who, coming after me, is preferred before me, whose shoe's
latchet I am not worthy to unloose, or whose place I am not able to fill;
for he shall baptize, not only with water, but with fire, and with the
Holy Ghost.
27. He it is, who coming after me is preferred before
me, whose shoe's latchet I am not worthy to unloose.
29. The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and
said; Behold the Lamb of God, who taketh away the sin of the world!
29. The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and
saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
30. And John bare record of him unto the people, saying,
This is he of whom I said; After me cometh a man who is preferred before
me; for he was before me, and I knew him, and that he should be made
manifest to Israel; therefore am I come baptizing with water.
30. This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man
which is preferred before me: for he was before me.
31. And I knew him not: but that he should be made
manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with
water.
31. And John bare record, saying; When he was baptized
of me, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode
upon him.
32. And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit
descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.
32. And I knew him; for he who sent me to baptize with
water, the same said unto me; Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit
descending, and remaining on him, the same is he who baptizeth with the
Holy Ghost.
33. And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize
with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit
descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the
Holy Ghost.
33. And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of
God.
34. And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of
God.
34. These things were done in Bethabara, beyond Jordan,
where John was baptizing.
28. These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan,
where John was baptizing.
38. Then Jesus turned, and saw them following him, and
said unto them, What seek ye? They say unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say,
being interpreted, Master;) Where dwellest thou?
38. Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith
unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say,
being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou?
39. He said unto them, Come and see. And they came and
saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day; for it was about the
tenth hour.
39. He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw
where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth
hour.
40. One of the two who heard John, and followed Jesus,
was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.
40. One of the two which heard John speak, and followed
him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.
42. And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld
him, he said, Thou art Simon, the son of Jona, thou shalt be called
Cephas, which is, by interpretation, a seer, or a stone. And they were
fishermen. And they straightway left all, and followed Jesus.
42. And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld
him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas,
which is by interpretation, A stone.
44. Now Philip was at Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and
Peter.
44. Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and
Peter.
48. Nathanael said unto him, Whence knowest thou me?
Jesus answering said unto him, Before Philip called thee, when thou wast
under the fig tree, I saw thee.
48. Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me?
Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when
thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.

CHAPTER 2
1. And on the third day of the week, there was a
marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there.
1. And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of
Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:
2. And Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the
marriage.
2. And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the
marriage.
3. And when they wanted wine, his mother said unto him,
They have no wine.
3. And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith
unto him, They have no wine.
4. Jesus said unto her, Woman, what wilt thou have me to
do for thee? that will I do; for mine hour is not yet come.
4. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with
thee? mine hour is not yet come.
5. His mother said unto the servants, Whatsoever he
saith unto you, see that ye do it.
5. His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he
saith unto you, do it.
6. There were set there six waterpots of stone, after
the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins
apiece.
6. And there were set there six waterpots of stone,
after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three
firkins apiece.
8. And he said, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor
of the feast. And they bare unto him.
8. And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto
the governor of the feast. And they bare it.
9. When the governor of the feast had tasted the water
which was made wine, (he knew not whence it was, but the servants who drew
the water knew,) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,
9. When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that
was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew
the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,
11. This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of
Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and the faith of his disciples
was strengthened in him.
11. This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of
Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on
him.
14. And found in the temple those who sold oxen, and
sheep, and doves, and the changers of money sitting.
14. And found in the temple those that sold oxen and
sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting:
16. And said unto them who sold doves, Take these things
hence; make not my Father's house a house of merchandise.
16. And said unto them that sold doves, Take these
things hence; make not my Father's house an house of merchandise.
17. And his disciples remembered that it was written,
The zeal of thy house hath eaten me up.
17. And his disciples remembered that it was written,
The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up.
18. Then spake the Jews and said unto him, What sign
showest thou unto us, seeing thou doest these things?
18. Then answered the Jews and said unto him, What sign
shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things?
22. When therefore he was risen from the dead, his
disciples remembered that he had said this unto them, and they remembered
the Scripture, and the word which Jesus had said unto them.
22. When therefore he was risen from the dead, his
disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed
the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.
23. Now when he was in Jerusalem, at the passover, on
the feast day, many believed on his name, when they saw the miracles which
he did.
23. Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, in the
feast day, many believed in his name, when they saw the miracles which he
did.
24. But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because
he knew all things,
24. But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because
he knew all men,

CHAPTER 3
2. The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him,
Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God; for no man can do
these miracles which thou doest, except God be with him.
2. The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him,
Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do
these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.
5. Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee,
Except a man be born of water, and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the
kingdom of God.
5. Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee,
Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the
kingdom of God.
8. The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest
the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it
goeth; so is every one who is born of the Spirit.
8. The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest
the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it
goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
10. Jesus answered and said, Art thou a master of
Israel, and knowest not these things?
10. Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master
of Israel, and knowest not these things?
12. If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe
not, how shall ye believe if I tell you heavenly things?
12. If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe
not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?
13. I tell you, No man hath ascended up to heaven, but
he who came down from heaven, the Son of Man who is in heaven.
13. And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that
came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.
15. That whosoever believeth on him should not perish,
but have eternal life.
15. That whosoever believeth in him should not perish,
but have eternal life.
16. For God so loved the world, that he gave his Only
Begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish; but have
everlasting life.
16. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only
begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have
everlasting life.
18. He who believeth on him is not condemned; but he who
believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed on the
name of the Only Begotten Son of God, which before was preached by the
mouth of the holy prophets; for they testified of me.
18. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he
that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in
the name of the only begotten Son of God.
19. And this is the condemnation, that light is come
into the world, and men love darkness rather than light, because their
deeds are evil.
19. And this is the condemnation, that light is come
into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their
deeds were evil.
20. For every one who doeth evil hateth the light,
neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
20. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light,
neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
21. But he who loveth truth, cometh to the light, that
his deeds may be made manifest.
21. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that
his deeds may be made manifest,
22. And he who obeyeth the truth, the works which he
doeth they are of God.
that they are wrought in God.
23. After these things came Jesus and his disciples into
the land of Judea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized;
22. After these things came Jesus and his disciples into
the land of Judaea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized.
24. And John also was baptizing in Aenon, near to Salim,
because there was much water there; and they came and were baptized;
23. And John also was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim,
because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized.
25. For John was not yet cast into prison.
24. For John was not yet cast into prison.
26. Then there arose a question between some of John's
disciples, and the Jews, about purifying.
25. Then there arose a question between some of John's
disciples and the Jews about purifying.
27. And they came unto John, and said unto him, Rabbi,
he who was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom thou bearest witness, behold,
the same baptizeth, and he receiveth of all people who come unto him.
26. And they came unto John, and said unto him, Rabbi,
he that was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom thou barest witness, behold,
the same baptizeth, and all men come to him.
28. John answered and said, A man can receive nothing,
except it be given him from heaven.
27. John answered and said, A man can receive nothing,
except it be given him from heaven.
29. Ye yourselves bear me witness that I said, I am not
the Christ, but that I am sent before him.
28. Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not
the Christ, but that I am sent before him.
30. He who hath the bride, is the bridegroom; but the
friend of the bridegroom, who standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly
because of the bridegroom's voice; this my joy therefore is
fulfilled.
29. He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the
friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth
greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is
fulfilled.
31. He must increase, but I must decrease.
30. He must increase, but I must decrease.
32. He who cometh from above is above all; he who is of
the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth; he who cometh from heaven
is above all. And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth; and but
few men receive his testimony.
31. He that cometh from above is above all: he that is
of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from
heaven is above all.
32. And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth;
and no man receiveth his testimony.
33. He who hath received his testimony, hath set to his
seal that God is true.
33. He that hath received his testimony hath set to his
seal that God is true.
34. For he whom God hath sent, speaketh the words of
God; for God giveth him not the Spirit by measure, for he dwelleth in him,
even the fullness.
34. For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God:
for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.
36. And he who believeth on the Son hath everlasting
life; and shall receive of his fullness. But he who believeth not the Son,
shall not receive of his fullness; for the wrath of God is upon him.
36. He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life:
and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God
abideth on him.

CHAPTER 4
1. When therefore the Pharisees had heard that Jesus
made and baptized more disciples than John,
1. When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had
heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John,
2. They sought more diligently some means that they
might put him to death; for many received John as a prophet, but they
believed not on Jesus.
3. Now the Lord knew this, though he himself baptized
not so many as his disciples;.
2. (Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his
disciples,)
4. For he suffered them for an example, preferring one
another.
5. And he left Judea, and departed again into Galilee,
3. He left Judaea, and departed again into Galilee.
6. And said unto his disciples, I must needs go through
Samaria.
4. And he must needs go through Samaria.
7. Then he cometh to the city of Samaria which is called
Sychar, near to the parcel of ground which Jacob gave to his son Joseph;
the place where Jacob's well was.
5. Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called
Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.
6. Now Jacob's well was there.
8. Now Jesus being weary with his journey, it being
about the sixth hour, sat down on the well;
Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat
thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.
9. And there came a woman of Samaria to draw water;
Jesus said unto her, Give me to drink.
7. There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus
saith unto her, Give me to drink.
10. Now his disciples were gone away into the city to
buy meat.
8. (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to
buy meat.)
11. Wherefore he being alone, the woman of Samaria said
unto him, How is it that thou being a Jew, askest drink of me, who am a
woman of Samaria? The Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.
9. Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it
that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria?
for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.
12. Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest
the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink, thou
wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living
water.
10. Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest
the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou
wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.
13. The woman said unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to
draw with, and the well is deep; from whence then hast thou that living
water?.
11. The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to
draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living
water?
14. Art thou greater than our father Jacob, who gave us
the will, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his
cattle?.
12. Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave
us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?
15. Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever shall
drink of this well, shall thirst again;
13. Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh
of this water shall thirst again:
16. But whosoever drinketh of the water which I shall
give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be
in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
14. But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall
give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be
in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
17. The woman said unto him, Sir, give me of this water
that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.
15. The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water,
that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.
18. Jesus said unto her, Go, call thy husband and come
hither.
16. Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come
hither.
19. The woman answered and said, I have no husband.
Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband.
17. The woman answered and said, I have no husband.
Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband:
20. For thou hast had five husbands, and he whom thou
now hast, is not thy husband; in that saidst thou truly.
18. For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou
now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.
21. The woman said unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou
art a prophet.
19. The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou
art a prophet.
22. Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say
that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.
20. Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say,
that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.
23. Jesus said unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour
cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem,
worship the Father.
21. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour
cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem,
worship the Father.
24. Ye worship ye know not what; we know what we
worship; and salvation is of the Jews.
22. Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we
worship: for salvation is of the Jews.
25. And the hour cometh, and now is, when the true
worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth; for the Father
seeketh such to worship him.
23. But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true
worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the
Father seeketh such to worship him.
26. For unto such hath God promised his Spirit. And they
who worship him, must worship in spirit and in truth.
24. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must
worship him in spirit and in truth.
27. The woman said unto him, I know that Messias cometh,
who is called Christ; when he is come, he will tell us all things.
25. The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias
cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all
things.
28. Jesus said unto her, I who speak unto thee am the
Messias.
26. Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.
29. And upon this came his disciples, and marveled that
he talked with the woman; yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why
talkest thou with her?.
27. And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that
he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why
talkest thou with her?
30. The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way
into the city, and said to the men,
28. The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way
into the city, and saith to the men,
31. Come see a man who told me all things that I have
ever done. Is not this the Christ?.
29. Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever
I did: is not this the Christ?
32. Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.
30. Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.
33. In the mean time his disciples prayed him, saying,
Master, eat.
31. In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying,
Master, eat.
34. But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye
know not of.
32. But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye
know not of.
35. Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath
any man brought him meat to eat?.
33. Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath
any man brought him ought to eat?
36. Jesus said unto them, My meat is to do the will of
him who sent me, and to finish his work.
34. Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of
him that sent me, and to finish his work.
37. Say not ye there are yet four months, then cometh
harvest? Behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the
fields; for they are white already to harvest.
35. Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then
cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the
fields; for they are white already to harvest.
38. And he who reapeth, receiveth wages, and gathereth
fruit unto life eternal; that both he who soweth, and he who reapeth, may
rejoice together.
36. And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth
fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may
rejoice together.
39. And herein is that saying true, One soweth and
another reapeth.
37. And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and
another reapeth.
40. I have sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no
labor; the prophets have labored, and ye have entered into their
labors.
38. I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no
labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.
41. And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on
him for the saying of the woman, who testified, saying, He told me all
that I have ever done.
39. And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on
him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever
I did.
42. So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they
besought him that he would tarry with them; and he abode there two
days.
40. So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they
besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days.
43. And many more believed because of his own word;
41. And many more believed because of his own word;
44. And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because
of thy saying; we have heard for ourselves, and know that this is indeed
the Christ, the Savior of the world.
42. And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because
of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is
indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.
45. Now after two days he departed thence, and went into
Galilee.
43. Now after two days he departed thence, and went into
Galilee.
46. For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no
honor in his own country.
44. For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no
honour in his own country.
47. Then when he had come into Galilee, the Galileans
received him, having seen all the things which he did at Jerusalem at the
feast; for they also went unto the feast.
45. Then when he was come into Galilee, the Galilaeans
received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the
feast: for they also went unto the feast.
48. So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he
made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick
at Capernaum.
46. So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he
made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick
at Capernaum.
49. When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judea into
Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and
heal his son; for he was at the point of death.
47. When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into
Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and
heal his son: for he was at the point of death.
50. Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and
wonders, ye will not believe.
48. Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and
wonders, ye will not believe.
51. The nobleman said unto him, Sir, come down before my
child die.
49. The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my
child die.
52. Jesus said unto him, Go thy way, thy son liveth. And
the man believed the word which Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his
way.
50. Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth.
And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went
his way.
53. And as he was now going down to his house, his
servants met him, and spake, saying, Thy son liveth.
51. And as he was now going down, his servants met him,
and told him, saying, Thy son liveth.
54. Then inquired he of them the hour when he began to
mend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left
him.
52. Then inquired he of them the hour when he began to
amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever
left him.
55. So the father knew that his son was healed in the
same hour in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth; and himself
believed, and his whole house;.
53. So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in
the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and
his whole house.
56. This being the second miracle which Jesus had done
when he had come out of Judea into Galilee.
54. This is again the second miracle that Jesus did,
when he was come out of Judaea into Galilee.
CHAPTER 5
CHAPTER 5
3. In these porches lay a great many impotent folk, of
blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.
3. In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of
blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.
5. And a certain man was there, who had an infirmity
thirty and eight years.
5. And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity
thirty and eight years.
6. And Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now
a long time afflicted; and he said unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?
6. When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now
a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?
9. And immediately the man was made whole, and took up
his bed, and walked; and it was on the Sabbath day.
9. And immediately the man was made whole, and took up
his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.
10. The Jews therefore said unto him who was cured, It
is the Sabbath day; it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.
10. The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It
is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.
11. He answered them, He who made me whole, said unto
me, Take up thy bed and walk.
11. He answered them, He that made me whole, the same
said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk.
12. Then answered they him, saying, What man is he who
said unto thee, Take up thy bed and walk?
12. Then asked they him, What man is that which said
unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?
13. And he that was healed knew not who it was; for
Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in the place.
13. And he that was healed wist not who it was: for
Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place.
15. The man departed, and told the Jews that it was
Jesus who had made him whole;
15. The man departed, and told the Jews that it was
Jesus, which had made him whole.
18. Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him,
because he had not only broken the Sabbath, but said also that God was his
father, making himself equal with God.
18. Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him,
because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his
Father, making himself equal with God.
23. That all should honor the Son, even as they honor
the Father. He who honoreth not the Son, honoreth not the Father who hath
sent him.
23. That all men should honour the Son, even as they
honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father
which hath sent him.
24. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He who heareth my
word, and believeth on him who sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall
not come into condemnation; but is passed from death into life.
24. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my
word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall
not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
25. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming,
and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God; and they
who hear shall live.
25. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming,
and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they
that hear shall live.
28. Marvel not at this; for the hour is coming, in the
which all who are in their graves shall hear his voice.
28. Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the
which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,
29. And shall come forth; they who have done good, in
the resurrection of the just; and they who have done evil, in the
resurrection of the unjust.
29. And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto
the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the
resurrection of damnation.
30. And shall all be judged of the Son of Man. For as I
hear, I judge, and my judgment is just;
31. For I can of mine own self do nothing; because I
seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father who hath sent me.
30. I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I
judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the
will of the Father which hath sent me.
32. Therefore if I bear witness of myself, yet my
witness is true.
31. If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true.
33. For I am not alone, there is another who beareth
witness of me, and I know that the testimony which he giveth of me is
true.
32. There is another that beareth witness of me; and I
know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true.
34. Ye sent unto John, and he bare witness also unto the
truth.
33. Ye sent unto John, and he bare witness unto the
truth.
35. And he received not his testimony of man, but of
God, and ye yourselves say that he is a prophet, therefore ye ought to
receive his testimony. These things I say that ye might be saved.
34. But I receive not testimony from man: but these
things I say, that ye might be saved.
36. He was a burning and a shining light; and ye were
willing for a season to rejoice in his light.
35. He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were
willing for a season to rejoice in his light.
37. But I have a greater witness than the testimony of
John; for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same
works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.
36. But I have greater witness than that of John: for
the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I
do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.
38. And the Father himself who sent me, hath borne
witness of me. And verily I testify unto you, that ye have never heard his
voice at any time, nor seen his shape;
37. And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath
borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen
his shape.
39. For ye have not his word abiding in you; and him
whom he hath sent, ye believe not.
38. And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he
hath sent, him ye believe not.
40. Search the Scriptures; for in them ye think ye have
eternal life; and they are they which testify of me.
39. Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have
eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
41. And ye will not come to me that ye might have life,
lest ye should honor me.
40. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.
42. I receive not honor from men.
41. I receive not honour from men.
43. But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in
you.
42. But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in
you.
44. I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me
not; if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.
43. I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me
not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.
45. How can ye believe, who seek honor one of another,
and seek not the honor which cometh from God only?
44. How can ye believe, which receive honour one of
another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?
46. Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father;
there is Moses who accuseth you, in whom ye trust.
45. Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father:
there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust.
47. For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed
me; for he wrote of me.
46. For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed
me: for he wrote of me.
48. But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye
believe my words?.
47. But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye
believe my words?
CHAPTER 6
CHAPTER 6
12. When they had eaten and were satisfied, he said unto
his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be
lost.
12. When they were filled, he said unto his disciples,
Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost.
25. And when they had found him on the other side of the
sea, they said unto him, Rabbi, how camest thou hither?
25. And when they had found him on the other side of the
sea, they said unto him, Rabbi, when camest thou hither?
26. Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say
unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye desire to keep my sayings, neither
because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves and were
filled.
26. Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say
unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did
eat of the loaves, and were filled.
27. Labor not for the meat which perisheth, but for that
meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of Man hath power
to give unto you; for him hath God the Father sealed.
27. Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for
that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall
give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.
40. And this is the will of him that sent me, that every
one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life;
and I will raise him up in the resurrection of the just at the last
day.
40. And this is the will of him that sent me, that every
one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life:
and I will raise him up at the last day.
44. No man can come unto me, except he doeth the will of
my Father who hath sent me. And this is the will of him who hath sent me,
that ye receive the Son; for the Father beareth record of him; and he who
receiveth the testimony, and doeth the will of him who sent me, I will
raise up in the resurrection of the just.
44. No man can come to me, except the Father which hath
sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
45. For it is written in the prophets, And these shall
all be taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath
learned of the Father, cometh unto me.
45. It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all
taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of
the Father, cometh unto me.
49. This is the bread which cometh down from heaven,
that a man may eat thereof, and not die.
50. This is the bread which cometh down from heaven,
that a man may eat thereof, and not die.
50. Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and
are dead.
49. Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and
are dead.
51. But I am the living bread which came down from
heaven; if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever; and the
bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the
world.
51. I am the living bread which came down from heaven:
if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I
will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
54. Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath
eternal life; and I will raise him up in the resurrection of the just at
the last day.
54. Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath
eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
65. And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man
can come unto me, except he doeth the will of my Father who hath sent
me.
65. And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man
can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.
CHAPTER 7
CHAPTER 7
3. His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence,
and go into Judea, that thy disciples there also may see the works that
thou doest.
3. His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence,
and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou
doest.
4. For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret,
but he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, show
thyself to the world.
4. For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret,
and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew
thyself to the world.
9. When he had said these words unto them, he continued
still in Galilee.
9. When he had said these words unto them, he abode
still in Galilee.
10. But after his brethren were gone up, then went he
also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.
10. But when his brethren were gone up, then went he
also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.
24. Judge not according to your traditions, but judge
righteous judgment.
24. Judge not according to the appearance, but judge
righteous judgment.
33. Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while I am
with you, and then I go unto him that sent me.
33. Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while am I
with you, and then I go unto him that sent me.
39. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that
believe on him should receive; for the Holy Ghost was promised unto them
who believe, after that Jesus was glorified.)
39. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that
believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given;
because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
CHAPTER 8
CHAPTER 8
1. And Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.
1. Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.
2. Early in the morning he came again into the temple,
and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.
2. And early in the morning he came again into the
temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught
them.
3. And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a
woman taken an adultery; and when they had set her in the midst of the
people,
3. And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a
woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,
9. And they which heard it, being convicted by their own
conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the
last; and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst of the
temple.
9. And they which heard it, being convicted by their own
conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the
last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
10. When Jesus had raised up himself, and saw none of
her accusers, and the woman standing, he said unto her, Woman, where are
those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
10. When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but
the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath
no man condemned thee?
11. She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her,
Neither do I condemn thee; go, and sin no more. And the woman glorified
God from that hour, and believed on his name.
11. She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her,
Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
43. Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye
cannot bear my word.
43. Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye
cannot hear my word.
47. He that is of God receiveth God's words; ye
therefore receive them not, because ye are not of God.
47. He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore
hear them not, because ye are not of God.
CHAPTER 9
CHAPTER 9
4. I must work the works of him that sent me, while I am
with you; the time cometh when I shall have finished my work, then I go
unto the Father.
4. I must work the works of him that sent me, while it
is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
8. The neighbors therefore, and they which before had
seen him that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged?
8. The neighbours therefore, and they which before had
seen him that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged?
13. And they brought him who had been blind to the
Pharisees.
13. They brought to the Pharisees him that aforetime was
blind.
17. They say unto the blind man again, What sayest thou
of him who hath opened thine eyes? He said, He is a prophet.
17. They say unto the blind man again, What sayest thou
of him, that he hath opened thine eyes? He said, He is a prophet.
27. He answered them, I have told you already, and ye
did not believe; wherefore would you believe if I should tell you again?
and would you be his disciples?.
27. He answered them, I have told you already, and ye
did not hear: wherefore would ye hear it again? will ye also be his
disciples?
29. We know that God spake unto Moses; as for this man
we know not from whence he is.
29. We know that God spake unto Moses: as for this
fellow, we know not from whence he is.
32. Since the world began was it not heard that any man
opened the eyes of one that was born blind, except he be of God.
32. Since the world began was it not heard that any man
opened the eyes of one that was born blind.
CHAPTER 10
CHAPTER 10
7. Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I
say unto you, I am the door of the sheepfold.
7. Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I
say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.
8. All that ever came before me who testified not of me
are thieves and robbers; but the sheep did not hear them.
8. All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers:
but the sheep did not hear them.
11. I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd giveth his
life for his sheep.
11. I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his
life for the sheep.
12. And the shepherd is not as a hireling, whose own the
sheep are not, who seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and
fleeth; and the wolf catcheth the sheep and scattereth them.
12. But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd,
whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep,
and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep.
13. For I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and
am known of mine.
14. I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am
known of mine.
14. But he who is a hireling fleeth, because he is a
hireling, and careth not for the sheep.
13. The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and
careth not for the sheep.
CHAPTER 11
CHAPTER 11
1. Now a certain man was sick, whose name was Lazarus,
of the town of Bethany;.
1. Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of
Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.
2. And Mary, his sister, who anointed the Lord with
ointment and wiped his feet with her hair, lived with her sister Martha,
in whose house her brother Lazarus was sick.
2. (It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with
ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was
sick.)
4. And when Jesus heard he was sick, he said, This
sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God
might be glorified thereby.
4. When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not
unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be
glorified thereby.
6. And Jesus tarried two days, after he heard that
Lazarus was sick, in the same place where he was.
6. When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he
abode two days still in the same place where he was.
