CHAPTER 2

CHAPTER 2

7.  Unto you therefore who believe, he is precious; but unto them who are disobedient, who stumble at the word, through disobedience, whereunto they were appointed, a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense.

7.  Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient,

8.  And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.

8.  For the stone which the builders disallowed, is become the head of the corner.

7. the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,

9.  But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light;

9.  But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;

12.  Having your conduct honest among the Gentiles; that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.

12.  Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.

CHAPTER 3

CHAPTER 3

1.  Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conduct of the wives;

1.  Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;

2.  While they behold your chaste conduct coupled with fear.

2.  While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.

3.  Let your adorning be not that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and wearing of gold, or putting on of apparel;

3.  Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;

5.  For after this manner in old times the holy women, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands;.

5.  For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:

15.  But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts; and be ready always to give an answer with meekness and fear to every man that asketh of you a reason for the hope that is in you:

15.  But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

16.  Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conduct in Christ.

16.  Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.

18.  For Christ also once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit, that he might bring us to God.

18.  For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the spirit:

19.  For which cause also, he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;.

19.  By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;

20.  Some of whom were disobedient in the days of Noah, while the long-suffering of God waited, while the ark was preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

20.  Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

CHAPTER 4

CHAPTER 4

1.  Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind;

1.  Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind:

2.  For you who have suffered in the flesh should cease from sin, that you no longer the rest of your time in the flesh, should live to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.

for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;

2.  That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.

3.  For the time past of life may suffice to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when ye walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries;

3.  For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:

4.  Wherein they speak evil of you, thinking it strange that you run not with them to the same excess of riot;

4.  Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:

6.  Because of this, is the gospel preached to them who are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live in the spirit according to the will of God.

6.  For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.

7.  But to you, the end of all things is at hand; be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.

7.  But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.

8.  And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves; for charity preventeth a multitude of sins.

8.  And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.

11.  If any man speak, let him speak as an oracle of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth; that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ; to whom be praise and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

11.  If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
